The Work Health and Safety Framework for Cultural Safety provides information about cultural safety as an important element of psychological health under the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (SA).

It is designed to strengthen existing work health and safety systems. It can also be used to support existing psychological wellbeing programs and initiatives.

About cultural safety

Cultural safety means creating a workplace where people feel:

  • respected
  • valued
  • safe to express their identity
  • free from discrimination, racism or bias

It recognises that culture affects a person’s experience at work and their psychological wellbeing.

Using the framework

You can use the framework to:

  • improve existing work health and safety systems
  • identify and address gaps in cultural safety
  • support leadership capability and accountability
  • align cultural safety with wellbeing programs and initiatives
