The 2018 survey was facilitated by independent provider, ORC International, which has since rebranded as ENGINE.

The inaugural I WORK FOR SA – Your Voice Survey opened on 24 September and closed on 26 October 2018, with a sector-wide final response rate of 22 per cent (24,341 completed surveys).

The 2018 results showed there was generally a strong alignment with the sector’s purpose, objectives, values and behaviours, and a strong motivation to improve what we do.

While employees generally felt their colleagues and managers act in accordance with the South Australian Public Sector Values, the results also highlighted the following areas for improvement:

  • Enabling employees to perform at their best, including approaches to performance management and development.
  • Employee career and working conditions, including how the sector enables career paths and mobility of the public sector workforce.
  • Building capability of managers across the sector, including leading and managing change.
  • Effectively addressing bullying and harassment.

The sector-level survey results showed low expectation about putting actions in place to address the feedback. However, the 2021 response to this question revealed more employees believed action would be taken, highlighting the success of the 2018 survey actions.
