SOUTH AUSTRALIAN PUBLIC SECTOR CODE OF ETHICS

Spoken by Erma Ranieri, Commissioner for Public Sector Employment

“Well first and foremost, the Code of Ethics is cited in the Public Sector Act and the Code of Ethics is really the foundation by which we actually measure the conduct of public servants.

The Code of Ethics is actually a very personal thing because we all are driven by our own values. I joined the public service to serve the people of South Australia and so I see ‘service’ as being the heart of why we are here as public servants; it is in our name.

So whichever agency you are in, you have to have the line of sight to who you are actually serving. You need to know who it is that you are doing this for.

We all have to take personal responsibility. We need to recognise, I guess, where our values align with the Code of Ethics. People need to know what it means for them when they come in to work for the South Australian Public Sector. It actually does make a difference to how we see our role and how we act on a daily basis, so I would encourage everyone to go to the website and see how it could help them do their job better.

Hi, I am Erma Ranieri, Commissioner for Public Sector Employment.”
