Next Execs is a 10-month program that cultivates effective leadership skills.

The program enhances personal leadership capabilities, strategic thinking, and governance knowledge, while equipping you with the skills and understanding to navigate and drive digital transformation in the public sector.

Next Execs aims to empower you with the capabilities required to ensure a diverse and innovative service-focused public sector, ready to address the complex challenges of the 21st century.

The Next Execs program is designed to develop your leadership skills as an aspiring public sector, including your personal leadership capabilities, strategic thinking, governance knowledge, and ability to lead digital transformation.

You can choose between the non-award pathway, or the award pathway, which involves additional readings and assessments to earn a Graduate Certificate in Public Sector Leadership from Flinders University.

The program has four key modules:

  1. Managing self to lead others: Focus on self-awareness and personal development to effectively lead teams.
  2. Strategic leadership: leading and managing change: Equip yourself with skills to drive and manage change in the public sector.
  3. Public sector governance: Gain insights into governance frameworks and practices within the public sector.
  4. Leading in a transforming digital environment: Prepare to navigate and leverage digital transformation.

Key components of the program include:

  1. Behavioural/strengths assessments: Identify and leverage your strengths.
  2. Networking opportunities: Connect with peers and industry leaders.
  3. Insights from industry leaders: Gain valuable perspectives and experiences from public sector professionals.

The Next Execs program empowers you to foster innovation, manage change effectively, and deliver better outcomes for the community.

For both the Next Execs Awards Program and non-award Program you must either have:

  • Three years’ relevant professional experience in the public sector and/or
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification.

This program is for high performing SA public sector managers who are ready to broaden their leadership impact and strategic influence.

Next Execs has a combination of asynchronous online, synchronous online and in-person learning components. Each of the four modules will approximately consist of:

  • 5 weeks x 2-hours (approx.) per week independent (asynchronous) online learning
  • 3 x 1-hour online, synchronous sessions
  • 2 x 6-hour in-person days (delivered consecutively)

Those enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Public Sector Leadership will also complete additional academic reading, research, and assessment tasks for each module of approximately 4 weeks’ work.

This program combines engaging online learning with short, intensive in-person sessions, making it easier for regional participants to access high-quality professional development.
